Background Aortic stenosis is the most common valvular heart disease in Western countries. A Norwegian study estimates that the prevalence of aortic stenosis is 0.2% in adults aged 50 to 59, 1.3% in adults aged 60 to 69, and up to 9.8% in patients 80 to 89.
