According to historical definitions of projection and lower lateral cartilage (LLC), which is composed of three crura: middle, lateral, and medial, lateral LLC forms an acceptable angle with the septum. LLC malposition may be congenital or secondary, may result in functional complications, such as difficulty in nasal breathing during inspiration due to external valve collapse, or aesthetic complication, including boxy tip, ball tip, pinch tip, poor alar - columellar relationship, poor tip aesthetics, and alar notching +/-retraction.
