Breast MRI is the most sensitive imaging modality for the detection of breast cancer, and is indicated for breast cancer screening in patients at high-risk of developing breast cancer. It is limited to this group given the high cost. In addition breast MRI is also indicated for evaluating extent of disease in patients with new breast cancer diagnoses, monitoring the response to neoadjuvant treatment, and evaluating implant integrity. New promising innovations in breast MRI include fast abbreviated MRI, and functional techniques including diffusion weighted imaging and MR spectroscopy are promising particularly as regards to treatment response.
